    Responsibilities

     

    The Senior Business Consultant, Career Development ideates around, drives, designs and manages talent programs specifically supporting Southwest’s overall job architecture and Career Framework. S/he provides research and bench marking support and maintains a network of vendors and colleagues to enhance and sustain initiatives and goals. The Senior Business Consultant is seen as a subject matter expert in the area of job architecture, competency modeling and career frameworks, utilizing high-level consulting and influencing skills at the Leadership and Senior Leadership levels.

     

    WORK ACTIVITIES/CONTENT:

    • Define program objectives and requirements that support the career development strategy, initiate program setup, establish and implement program management plans, monitor program results and develop sustainability measures.
    • Develop, write and maintain competency and job architecture models.
    • Collaborate with key stakeholders and use innovation in the design, development and project management of career development programs and initiatives.
    • Set the strategy for corporate communication and change management efforts required to ensure successful implementation and adoption of career development initiatives.
    • Support Talent and Career Development as a strategic business partner by understanding the overall organizational strategy.
    • Collaborate with partners, including SWA University, Talent Development and Talent Acquisition to integrate career development with cross-functional initiatives.
    • Evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of talent development strategies and initiatives against the short and long term needs of the business and function and recommend and implement changes as needed.
    • Provide talent and career development expertise, thought leadership and innovative thinking to initiatives and partners and Leadership.
    • Evaluate regulatory changes and identify any potential implications to existing policies, programs and procedures to make recommendations for changes and ensure implementation of proper updates.
    • Manage all risk associated with program planning by identifying and forecasting pertinent problems, evaluating and recommending solutions, and implementing the appropriate course of action.
    • Drive creation and deliver presentations to Executive Leadership including business cases, project proposals, status reports, process improvement recommendations, as well as providing consultative support regarding strategic objectives and tactical program actions.

    LICENSING/CERTIFICATION:

    • Must have expertise in developing and managing competency models and competency-based development systems.
    • Must have experience in talent development, such as performance management and succession planning.
    • Ability to perform as an indirect lead to a cross functional project Team.
    • Must be able to track and execute multiple projects while maintaining a high level of attention to detail under tight time frames in a fast-paced environment.
    • Must be able to make decisions considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate action.
    • Must have skills to convey technical information to non-technical audiences.
    • Must have strategic thinking skills and be able to solve complex problems.
    • Must have strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Must have the ability to influence at Executive Leadership levels and demonstrate excellent consulting skills.
    • Must maintain high level of confidentiality and discernment.
    • Must be able to build credibility with business leaders utilizing tact and diplomacy.
    • Must have skills to work with limited supervision.
    • Must be able to build and maintain internal and external relationships.
    • Must be able to quickly understand business drivers and cultural/organizational dynamics.
    • Must possess an avid curiosity and stay abreast of talent development and organizational development trends.
    • Must have advanced skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines.
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
    • Must be at least 18 years of age.
    • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines.
