    Provide 24/7 on-site Service Engineering support to Southwest maintenance organizations to return aircraft to operational status and maintain airworthiness by providing technical procedures and guidance to execute repair, alteration, inspection and scheduled maintenance of Southwest Airlines' fleets.





    • Provides friendly service to and maintains positive relationships with all internal and external customers.
    • Works in a cooperative spirit to ensure the success of our Company.
    • Provides on-site engineering assistance to SWA Maintenance at primary assigned station, remotely located from base operations, and other stations as needed.
    • Maintain current knowledge on latest regulatory requirements/guidance, policies, manual revisions and engineering documents.
    • Develop and manage projects as requested by engineering management.
    • Routine responsibilities include:
    • a) Provide technical instructions and substantiation for repairs to correct discrepancies not covered by the manufacturer's technical data.
    • b) Investigate and develop guidance to correct in-service performance issues, and repeat discrepancies.
    • c) Interpret technical requirements in manufacturer's technical manuals.
    • d) Coordinating technical requirements with manufacturers to support repair data.
    • e) Clarify and resolve technical issues for personnel within Technical Operations.
    • f) Support incorporation of aircraft alterations and modifications.
    • g) Submit revisions to technical data and manuals to reflect current best practices, and maintain instructions for continued airworthiness.
    • h) Provide on-call, and non-standard work shift to assure operational expectations are fulfilled.
    • Must be able to meet any physical ability requirements listed on this description.
    • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders.



    High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.

    Must be at least 18 years of age.

    Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.



    • Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering or related field required or current SWA Engineer.



    • 10+ years airline engineering experience (required).
    • Previous engineering experience supporting aircraft operations and maintenance (preferred).
    • Familiarity with 14 CFR requirements (preferred).
    • 3+ years of 737 or Boeing aircraft experience (preferred)
    • Experience utilizing Microsoft Office products required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).




    • FAA Airframe and Powerplant license (preferred).   



    • Ability to lift 50+ lbs; Climb ladders; work from heights of 40+ feet; work within small enclosed areas; work in the vicinity of fuel and other chemicals.


    • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are required.
    • Diplomacy, business acumen, accountability required.
    • Must be able to work well under pressure and with scheduled timelines.  
    • Must be able to communicate effectively via telephone as well as within group settings. 
    • Excellent writing skills are required.
    • Self-motivation and initiative to achieve consistent results are required. 
    • Skilled and knowledgable across multiple engineering disciplines as related to aircraft maintenance and troubleshooting (Avionics/Electrical, Interiors, Systems and Structures).
    • Extensive knowledge of the regulations and programs governing aircraft certification, maintenance, and operations.
    • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines.






    • Must be flexible with shift work schedules.
    • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines.
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
