    Responsibilities

    The Ground Operations Team supports our Customer’s journey from the time they arrive at the airport, all the way until the Customers deplane and their bags are unloaded.

    The Ground Operations Project Execution Team promotes the Southwest Airlines Vision by creating and delivering intuitive, innovative solutions that empower and support our Ground Operations Employees. We support our Ground Operations Teams by delivering solutions to support the Ground Operations Core Business Objectives.

    The Project Execution Intern(s) will assist this department with a variety of responsibilities including, but not limited to:

    • Innovate and make recommendations to Leadership based on results of testing and analysis.
    • Assist with test design and data collection
    • Collect data by using time and motion studies
    • Assist with the identification of areas to improve operational performance and business process through an understanding of Customer insights, future needs, and root cause.
    • Assist with change management and communications development.
    • Assist with post analysis and research of operational data.
    • Attend cross-functional meeting with other operational departments.

    Qualifications

    Basic Qualifications:

     

    High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.

     

    Must be at least 18 years of age.

     

    To be eligible must be currently enrolled as a fulltime college student at time of application (minimum of 12 credit hours)

     

    Minimum of Sophomore level by hours (30+) at the start of the internship

     

    Minimum of a 2.75 or above cumulative GPA

     

    Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986

     

    Education:

     

    Progress towards Bachelor's Degree in Aviation Management, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations Management Logistics.

    Experience:

     

    Experience with a large scale  implementation (100+ sites) preferred.

     

    Previous internship experience in at least one of the following industries preferred: airline, ops support, healthcare or engineering.

     

    Experience with data mining in one of the following tools preferred: SQL, Tableau, Gera, Confluence.

     

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Self-starter, critical thinker and innovator of ideas that could lower cost and increase value for SWA

     

    Able to use Excel to create formulas, data visualization through graphs and other basic functions required. 

     

    Experience with advanced features of Excel (e.g., Pivot Tables, Vlookups) preferred

     

    Knowledge of different databases and analytical tools including SQL querying and Tableau for data visualization are preferred.

     

    Knowledge and application of Six Sigma or Lean methodology preferred

     

    Knowledge and application of project management methodologies is preferred.

     

    Knowledge of Change Management gained through academic or professional projects preferred.

     

    Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and complete assignments with tight deadlines.

     

    Experience with problem solving and implementation in a professional or large scale environment preferred.

     

    Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

     

    Ability to work independently and willingness to function as part of a Team.

    TIME COMMITMENT:

     

    Full-time - 40 hours per week

     

    PAY:

    $15.00 per hour + flight privileges

     

    This Internship is located in Dallas, Texas at the Southwest Airlines Headquarters building.
