    Responsibilities

    The Ground Operations Team supports our Customer’s journey from the time they arrive at the airport, all the way until the Customers deplane and their bags are unloaded.

     

     

    The Safety Team works with both above wing and below wing activities to ensure all operations are performed in safe and complaint way.

     

    The Safety, Standards, and Compliance Intern(s) will assist this department with a variety of responsibilities including, but not limited to:

    • Will be working on compliance with current policies and procedures in Ground Ops
    • Assist working groups on changing or creating new policies and procedures and risk assess changes to Frontline Employees
    • Assist with creating, modifying, or compliance with Deice/Anti-ice policies and procedures
    • Assist with creating, modifying, or compliance with weight and balance policies and procedures
    • Assist with creating, modifying, or compliance with Below the Wing (Ramp and Provo) policies and procedures
    • Assist with creating, modifying, or compliance with Customer Service policies and procedures
    • Some travel may be required—we send all Interns to SAT for two days of OJT and possibly assisting with projects in the stations
    • Schedule will be Monday-Friday—different options to start, starting at 07:00 to 08:00
    • Interns are expected to arrive to work every day on time and ready to start—we expect them to leave on time too!
    • Interns work will have required daily tasks to be completed and then vary from day to day (bouncing between all Ground Ops classifications) depending on what is going on and most important that day
    • Interns must be able to multi-task and prioritize—they will work on competing tasks daily
    • Proactively look for additional work or help others when required tasks are completed

    Qualifications

    Basic Qualifications:

    High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.

     

    Must be at least 18 years of age.

     

    To be eligible must be currently enrolled as a fulltime student at time of application (minimum of 12 credit hours)

     

    Minimum of Sophomore level by hours (30+) at the start of the internship

     

    Minimum of a 2.75 or above cumulative GPA

     

    Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986

     

    Education:

     

    Progress towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Management, Aeronautical based degree emphasizing on Safety and Regulatory Compliance required.

     

    Experience:

     

    Previous internship with an airline in their Ground Ops team preferred.

     

     

    Must have working experience gained through either academic projects or internships with Tableau.

    Must have working experience gained through either academic projects or internships with Quickbase.

    Experience with Pivot Tables, Vlookup in Excel required.

    Experience and knowledge of FAA’s Air Transportation Oversight System (ATOS) preferred.

    Experience in root cause and trend analysis preferred.

     

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Knowledge of Safety Management Systems (SMS) preferred

    Knowledge of OSHA and DOT preferred

    Knowledge of Deice/Anti-icing of aircraft and/or regulatory requirements preferred.

    Aviation Safety or Regulatory Compliance experience (i.e. organizations, previous internship, or work experience within the past 12 months preferred).

    Self-starter, critical thinker and innovator of ideas that could lower cost and increase value for SWA

    Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and complete assignments with tight deadlines

    Problem solving ability with strong written/verbal communications skills

    Ability to work independently and willingness to function as part of a Team

    TIME COMMITMENT:

    Full-time - 40 hours per week

    PAY:

    $15.00 per hour + flight privileges
