    Responsibilities

    DESCRIPTION:

     

    The Flight Operations Department supports our daily operations through the ongoing training and administrative support of our Pilot group. If selected, you will work full-time as a Team Member within one of the following Teams:

     

    Planning & Analysis

    The Planning & Analysis Team is responsible for working with Flight Ops Leadership, FP&A, Technology, Ops Performance, etc., on planning activities to ensure project work aligns to Flight Ops & Corporate Strategies. These activities include working with other Operational departments to development multi-year plans and identify cross-functional dependencies. The Team is also responsible for analyzing and evaluating internal business plans as well as and formulating strategies and/or suggesting changes or improvements to current business plans, policies, and procedures. Additionally the Team provides ad-hoc data analytics requests, reports on the status of the project portfolio, and develops KPIs for higher level, strategic reports.

     

    During this internship, you may assist with data analysis, create forecasting and predictive models, make presentations and recommendations to subject matter experts, and act as liaison for the Department and other company work groups.

     

    Projects

    The Projects Team is responsible for overseeing and prioritizing the Flight Ops Project Portfolio according to department strategy, managing Flight Ops Projects, implementing and maintaining a consistent approach to managing Flight Ops Projects, and deliver quality results on time, within budget and within scope.

     

    During this internship, you may assist with managing projects, develop and document processes, perform data analysis, make presentations and recommendations to subject matter experts, and act as liaison for the Department and other company work groups.

     

    Engagement

    The Engagement Team is responsible for the communication and engagement strategy within Flight Operations. The Team is responsible for relationship building with creating connection opportunities within the department.

     

    During this internship, you may assist with writing and editing content, attending and documenting events, creating presentations for the Team and department Leaders, and assisting with Flight Operations projects as needed.

     

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (may include some of the following)

     

    • Duties may include coordinating project work, research, data analysis, presentations and meetings that support the role of Flight Operations.
    • Create forecasting and predictive models for project statuses and resource utilization.
    • Create reports for Leadership that interpret output of raw data processed through analytics.
    • Gather information for analysis and reporting to be used in the identification of key metrics and modeling the positive and negative impact on the Flight Operations Group processes and projects.
    • Help identify technology related needs and associated tradeoffs when resources are limited.
    • Facilitate conversations related to and document high level requirements for changes to our Operational software.
    • May be asked to assist or work closely with other Flight Ops groups including: Procedures, Daily Operations, Training, Quality Assurance, Safety and Compliance.
    • Work with department leadership to design and build tools for the team to manage time, cost, resource utilization, and project analysis.
    • Must adhere to all Southwest Airlines corporate policies including the protection and security of confidential and proprietary information.

    Qualifications

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.

    Must be at least 18 years of age.

    Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

     

    EDUCATION:

     

    • Progress towards degree in Finance, Business Intelligence, Business Administration, Project Management, Management Information Systems (MIS), Aviation or related field
    • Minimum junior level (please include your graduation date on your resume)
    • To be eligible must be currently enrolled as a full time student (minimum 12 credit hours).
    • Maintained 3.0 or above cumulative GPA

     

    EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE: 

    • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access) required
    • Strong Excel skills preferred (Pivot table, V-lookups, etc.)
    • Microsoft Project skills preferred
    • Basic understanding of root cause and/or trend analysis
    • Problem solving ability and strong written/verbal communications skills
    • Ability to stay organized and manage multiple and concurrent assignments
    • Public speaking and presentation skills preferred

    TIME COMMITMENT:

     

    Full-time - 40 hours per week

     

    PAY:

     

    $15.00 hourly + flight privileges

     

    This internship is located in Dallas, Texas at the Southwest Airlines Wings Building.
