Responsibilities

DESCRIPTION:

The role of Network Planning is to plan Southwest’s point-to-point network of cities and nonstop markets, schedule our aircraft, and create flight schedules for our valued Customers. The Department utilizes analytics, industry traffic demand and operational data, and optimization and scheduling technology to build the most profitable, marketable, and operationally reliable schedules for Southwest Airlines.

 

The Department consists of multiple teams where each has individual functions in the schedule development process. These teams collaborate heavily with other Departments, including Ground Operations, Revenue Management, Marketing, Properties, General Counsel, Communications, Financial Planning, and the Fleet Planning Team.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop knowledge of general industry and competitive issues as it relates to Network Planning
  • Conduct analysis and develop reports for operational, traffic demand, and competitive issues
  • Learn Department tools and schedule development process
  • Learn sources of schedule and planning data
  • Some travel may be required

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

 

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.

Must be at least 18 years of age

Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986

EDUCATION:

  • Minimum junior level.
  • To be eligible must be currently enrolled as a full time student (minimum 12 credit hours).
  • Maintained 2.75 or above cumulative GPA.
  • Major/Minor in an Aviation, Aeronautical, Finance, Business, Economics, Operational Research, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering or related undergraduate degree program.

 

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

  • Self-starter, critical thinker, and innovator of ideas
  • Problem solving ability with strong written/verbal communications skills
  • Interest or experience in the Aviation industry is preferred
  • Participation in a Network Planning boot camp hosted by Southwest Airlines is preferred
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) is required
  • Ability to create basic analyses and graphics using Excel is required
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and complete assignments with tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently as well as function as part of a Team
  • Participation in Academic Associations and extracurricular activities is preferred.
  • Must adhere to all Southwest Airlines Company policies including the protection and security of confidential and proprietary information

TIME COMMITMENT:

 

Full time - 40 hours per week (Monday – Friday).

 

PAY:

$15.00 hourly + flight privileges
